The two major attractions of Oatlands are its history and angling. A designated historic town, most of the buildings were built from 1830's sandstone, including the convict-built court house. The Callington Flour Mill is another historic building likely to be of interest. There are walking tours of the town, and ghost tours in the evenings.

Fishing enthusiasts take to Lake Sorell, north-west of Oatlands, and also Lake Crescent.

For those of celtic heritage, the Scottish, Irish & Welsh shop in Oatlands stocks over five hundred different tartans, clan crests, badges and pins along with pottery and jewelry. There are other craft shops whose specialties include teddy bears and porcelain!
