The town is known for its great surf at White Beach and Roaring Beach. The latter is a coastal reserve, and offers spectacular coastal views. Coal used to be mined on the northwest of the Tasman Peninsula in convict times, and ruins of the mine, including barracks, convict quarters and the lime kiln, are found north of Nubeena.

Cape Raoul State Reserve, to the south of town, offers a cliff walk along Shipstern Bluff, with the option of going to Tunnel Bay, a natural rock tunnel created by water erosion.
