Kingborough is a growing municipality to the south of Hobart, likely to be named Tasmania's next city. Kingborough encompasses the northern D'Entrecasteaux Channel . Kingston is the main town of the region, and is the largest population centre south of Hobart.

Other towns in the area include Margate, Snug, Kettering and Woodbridge. There are many good craft and antique shops, plus local produce, available throughout Kingborough. Across the channel, one of the major attractions is Bruny Island.

At Tinderbox, there is a scenic drive to Piersons Point lookout, and a marine reserve with good snorkeling opportunities.

Near the town of Snug is the Snug Falls State Recreation Area. This gully has several waterfalls which are popular with both domestic and international visitors. Also close by is Conningham, a popular beach area used for camps and orienteering.

Kettering is the mainland terminal for the ferry to Bruny Island, and home to the Herons Rise Vineyard.

At Woodbridge is the Geebin Vineyard, and the Marine Discovery Centre, a popular stop for school classes.
