Geeveston (pop ~800) is located in the Huon Valley region of southern Tasmania and is the gateway to the Hartz Mountains National Park .
Within the National Park there are various walks through the Arve Valley, with picnic spots and lookouts. Most walks are easy and short, although some four hour return walks to Hartz Peak can be attempted. The Tahune Forest Reserve permits fishing, rafting and camping. The world's tallest hardwood trees are located in the park. In Geeveston itself, the Forest & Heritage Centre explains the history of the region, and about the animals which live in the nearby forests. North of Geeveston along the Huon River is the Panorama Vineyard. To the east are river cruises at Port Huon, and to the south is a daffodil and bulb farm, some of the varieties sold being unique to the farm. Geeveston has limited accommodation. © 1995-2010 |
