Cygnet  (pop ~900) is a beautifully set township in the Huon Valley region of southern Tasmania, local boats being tied up on serene, mirror-calm waters.
Cygnet was discovered by Bruny D'Entrecasteaux and originally named Port de Cygne Noir (Black Swan Port), but the name was later Anglicised to Cygnet. There are good beaches providing safe swimming and fishing all around the Cygnet area.
 There are numerous craft shops, including woodturners and pottery specialties. Several berry orchards dot the area, and there are good places to fossick for gemstones. To the east of Cygnet at Garnder's Bay is the Hartzview Vineyard, and also the Talune Wildlife Park, which has a variety of native animals, including Tasmanian devils, wombats, and koalas, plus good barbeque facilities. Cygnet has three 3½-star accommodation facilities (RACT rated).
