Bridport (pop ~1200) is a holiday and fishing spot on Anderson Bay, approximately 85 km (53 mi) north-east of Launceston. The safe swimming and children's play areas, and the sand dune systems make it an enjoyable area for children, whilst the tranquil and pristine environment aid relaxation.
There are two nature reserves and one protected area in the immediate vicinity of Bridport. Granite Point Coastal Reserve, walking distance from the town, has a scenic coastline which abounds with spring wildflowers. The obviously named Bridport Wildflower Reserve also offers scenic views and wildflowers, and has a short walking track. The Waterhouse Protected Area is larger, and extends along the coast east of Bridport. There is an excellent water skiing area to the west of Bridport at Weymouth. Anderson Bay offers excellent sea fishing; there is also good lake and river fishing to be found. Bridport has a new resort facility, in addition to one 4-star and three 3½-star accommodations (RACT rated). There is also a backpacker lodge. © 1995-2010 |
